"quantum chips require an enormous amount of wiring and sensors for every single qubit; scaling from 10 to 1K qubits causes chip becoming tangled mess of cables generating heat/ taking up too much space... overcome simplifying readout (looking at qubit to see if 1 or 0), reducing number of sensors, essentially way to multiplex data for much higher qubit density... packs more processing power into the same silicon footprint without the system overheating or the wiring becoming impossible to manufacture"
