"MgO/Fe(001), widely used in spintronics, as an insulating film can host stable spins since they lack conduction electrons... oxygen coating on Fe(001) provided atomically flat substrate for epitaxially growing flat MgO film using chemical vapor deposition in ultra-high vacuum, then adsorbed CuPc molecule on top... insulating layer keeps spin stable... observed zero-bias peak emerging via indirect coupling of isolated spin/  Fe(001) substrate conduction electrons, showing insulating films can support isolated spins' formation"
