Ultrathin single-layer polycrystalline silicon metasurface coatings achieve ultralow light reflection, enhancing solar cell performance

"nearly half of light reaching flat silicon solar cell surface lost to reflection... coatings only work within narrow light frequency range/ incidence angles, overcome combining forward/ inverse design techniques enhanced by AI... works across visible/ near-IR, reflects as little as 2% at direct angles, 4.4% at even steep angles... also, metasurfaces for optics and photonics. It opens the door to multifunctional photonic coatings that could benefit not just solar power but also sensors and other optical devices"
