A study funded by Tesla revealed that batteries with single-crystal electrodes could power EVs for 5 million miles
"lithium-ion battery with this new type of electrode charging/ discharging repeatedly 20K times (6 years) retains 80% original capacity... can be cycled 8X longer than regular lithium-ion battery, equivalent to EV driving 5 million miles... placed long-lasting single-crystal electrode with a more commonly utilized polycrystalline electrode... after 2.5 years constant cycling, polycrystalline electrode full of tiny cracks limiting storage"
