"desiccant-enhanced evaporative air conditioner... two NREL innovations (1) cooling process using indirect evaporative air conditioning provides refrigeration, (2) concentrated salt solution (desiccant) controls humidity, combined into single conditioner system that cools and dehumidifies building spaces using minimal electricity to run fans and pumps... Storing desiccant enables up to 12 hours of low power conditioner operation when electric rates are high... inexpensive and saves up to 80% energy costs"
