Dramatically more powerful: world’s first battery-electric freight train unveiled

A mining company ordered the 7 Mw model, a fully electric locomotive that will contribute 11% of the energy to a hybrid diesel-electric arrangement of rail cars. Specs: 18,000 lithium-ion cells, 2.4 Mw battery pack, 3200+ Kw engine, computer driven regenerative braking to optimize trip efficiency (perhaps the diesel locomotive car in the hybrid arrangement also has regenerative braking and contributes electricity to the electric locomotive car's battery).
